Modernism Week Fall Preview October 21-23, 2016
The Modernism Week Fall Preview is an abbreviated version of the ten-day 2017 Modernism Week February 16 -26, 2017, founded in 2009, that brings visitors from all over the world.
Many of the ten-day event historical tours, social gatherings, lectures and other functions are available at the Fall Preview. It’s reported that the Coachella Valley had 60,000 international visitors for Modernism Week last year. This preview weekend provides a wonderful opportunity to attend and enjoy the events without the congestion of the main event early next year.
As part of the events planned by the Modernism Week Fall Preview organizers, the Architecture and Design Center of the Palm Springs Art Museum will have a number of planned events including tours of the wonderful Frey House II.
The Preview will also coincide with a new exhibit at The Architecture & Design Center, a wonderful restoration of a bank building designed by well-known mid-century architect, E. Stuart Williams and which was originally constructed in 1961. The exhibit, entitled “MetaModern” will run from October 9th, 2016 until February 27th, 2017 through Modernism Week.
Organized by Krannert Art Museum, University of Illinois, the exhibit features modernist design, now an integral segment of architectural history, as interpreted and incorporated into new configurations by various contemporary artists from around the world. Thus the term “Meta Modern”. The A&D is well worth the visit and admission is complimentary.
